Counseling for Depression

Many of us have said that we are feeling depressed, but usually the feelings last a day or two at most. Someone with clinical depression has intense feelings of sadness and hopelessness that are relatively constant, to the point that it can be difficult to function in daily life. Depression is a brain disorder, in which the brain chemicals that affect mood, thinking, and behavior, are out of balance.

Counseling for Anxiety

Research conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health has shown that anxiety disorders are the number one mental health problem among American women, and are second only to alcohol and drug abuse among men. Anxiety disorders affect more than 13% of the population!

Counseling for Grief

Grief is an unhappy or painful reaction to a major loss. Often grief is associated with death, such as the loss of a friend or family member, but there are other causes of grief. The termination of a long-term relationship or job can cause grief; so can a chronic medical condition that affects someone’s quality of life.

Counseling for Couples

Many people believe that you should only seek relationship counseling when separation or divorce are looming. But that is often too little, too late. The average couple waits six years before seeking therapy. This is a lot of time to let problems fester; at this point, troubled relationships are difficult to save. It is therefore important to acknowledge problems early and seek therapy as soon as possible.

Counseling for Families

Problems in your family can affect all areas of family members' lives. Behavioral or emotional problems in children are one of the most common reasons to visit a family therapist. A child’s problems do not exist in a vacuum; they exist, and will likely need to be addressed, within the context of the family.
