Alissa Ward, MSW, LISW
My name is Alissa Ward and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Akron. I have experience with counseling children, teens, and adults. While I work with individuals with a variety of different mental health needs, I have specialized training in maternal mental health, fertility issues and pregnancy loss, and postpartum/perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I am currently in the process of becoming certified as a Perinatal Mental Health Provider. I am passionate about women’s mental health as a whole and enjoy helping teen and adult women experiencing life transitions, self-esteem issues, anxiety, and depression.
My approach to therapy is solution-focused and goal-oriented, working collaboratively with my clients to help them tackle current struggles and recognize their own resiliency, while improving their coping capability. I use concepts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to teach the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and to find ways of challenging negative thinking.
I truly enjoy watching my clients grow and thrive in a therapeutic environment where they feel comfortable and empowered. I frequently teach self-care techniques and also engage in them myself. In my free time, you can find me reading, walking, distance running, or spending time with my family.
