Denise VanBrocklin, PsyD, Post Doctoral Candidate
Hello, my name is Denise VanBrocklin. I recently completed my studies for the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) with Capella University. I am also a nationally certified school psychologist (NCSP). I have a Master’s of Science, and a Specialist Degree in School Psychology from Capella University, and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from Park University. I am supervised by Alex Maryles, PhD, Clinical Psychologist.
I enjoy working with a variety of individuals (adults or children) who are facing challenges in their day to day lives. I assist individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma or grief. While living in Alaska, I had experience in working with veterans with PTSD. I offer counseling tailored to address the unique challenges of first responders and other high-stress professions, and their families; including trauma, anxiety, and relationship dynamics. My approach focuses on resilience-building and emotional well-being, providing a safe space for clients to navigate their experiences and strengthen their support systems.
I have over 20 years of experience working in the field of special education, as a special education teacher and as a school psychologist. I have years of experience assessing students, working with students, their families, school personnel, and community resource/service agencies. If your child is struggling in school and you are struggling to navigate the world of special education, trying to understand the difference between a 504 plan and an IEP, I may be able to offer guidance and assistance in helping you and your child in determining if there is a need to pursue special education testing/services through the school district.
As with students receiving special education services, I believe in meeting clients where they are at when faced with daily struggles and challenges. I have provided individual counseling service for children, adolescents, and adults. My approach to therapy is one of positive regard, empathy, and understanding while assisting clients to focus on improving their overall quality of life and relationships. I work with parents whose children are exhibiting challenging behaviors or struggle with social skills. I also bring a Christian perspective to counseling services when working with clients who request it. I have a special interest in working with veterans and families of individuals with autism, as I am the parent of young adult with autism, as well as the parent of a combat veteran.
