Candace M. Rau, MA, LPCC, LSW
My name is Candace M. Rau, LPCC, LSW and I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary, of Ashland Ohio. I am dually licensed as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Social Worker. I have experience counseling adolescents and adults who are dealing with trauma, abuse, neglect, and domestic violence issues. Additionally, I also help couples and parents/blended families desiring to improve communication, develop conflict resolution skills, and grow coping skills as they strive to build more balanced relationships.
My approach to counseling is eclectic, among other approaches I often utilize Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; which I use to help my clients understand and change negative thoughts and behaviors, through a lens that recognizes the effect that that traumatic events can have on a person’s emotional and mental well-being. I also incorporate Motivational Interviewing; which is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication that I use to help clients move through the emotional stages of change necessary to find their motivation. Reality Therapy, and Play Therapy are other techniques I incorporate where appropriate with my clients.
