Megan L. Kaufman, MSSA, LISW
My name is Megan Kaufman and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Ohio University and a Master of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) from Case Western Reserve University. I have experience counseling adolescents, adults and older adults navigating life transitions, emotional challenges, and complex mental health concerns.
My approach to therapy is thoughtful, collaborative, and insight-oriented. I work with clients to understand how their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and life experiences are shaped not only by the individual, but also by family dynamics and broader systems. I often take a slower, reflective approach to help clients explore the origins and meaning behind their struggles, while also using practical strategies to support emotional regulation, resilience, and meaningful change. I incorporate cognitive and behavioral techniques to help clients recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns, while building healthier coping skills for day-to-day life.
In addition to working with a wide range of mental health concerns, I have extensive experience assessing and treating mood disorders, adjustment disorders, and personality-related challenges. I regularly integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to support emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I have a strong interest in grief and loss work, including supporting individuals experiencing anticipatory anxiety related to serious illness, end-of-life concerns, and the potential loss of loved ones. Drawing from both professional training and personal experience with cancer, I offer compassionate support to clients navigating bereavement, caregiver stress, and the complex emotions that accompany illness and loss. I also work with individuals facing divorce and relationship transitions, chronic pain and pain management concerns, parenting stress, aging-related challenges, substance use concerns, and process addictions such as shopping, gambling, and compulsive sexual behaviors.
Spirituality can be an important source of strength for many people, and I am able to incorporate Christian-focused counseling upon client request. I value building genuine, trusting relationships with my clients and strive to create a supportive, non-judgmental space where individuals feel safe to explore, heal, and grow at their own pace.
On a personal level, I find great fulfillment in forming meaningful connections with clients and walking alongside them as they work toward greater clarity, stability, and emotional well-being.
