Transgender Clients Dealing with Gender Dysphoria
Gender Dysphoria is defined as the condition of feeling one’s emotional and psychological identity as male or female to be opposite to one’s biological sex. Many people feel the need to hide their true feelings of wanting to identify as the opposite sex because they are worried they won’t be accepted by family, friends, and acquaintances. Also, even if they do have a support system, they may not know where to start.
How Transgender Counseling Can Help
If you have already transitioned, we can help you cope with anxiety about family members, fears of finding a partner, or concerns about “passing” as the opposite sex. Through counseling, you can gain the self-confidence to truly become the person you want to be. Also, if you are not quite sure about where you want to be yet, your counselor can help you decide what steps you want to take. Deciding what to do can be the most difficult part for transgender individuals. You also may not fully know all the options you have. This stage of the process can be particularly difficult because it can seem very overwhelming to do all on your own. Also, just because you are transgender does not mean you have other unrelated things going on in your life as well. Talking to a counselor about any or all of these issues can make a positive impact on your life as a whole and give you a better outlook on life.
