Get Out of the "Worry Loop"
Hope you are staying warm and taking time to enjoy the change of seasons. This is a time of “in between”. We have not really reached Thanksgiving, leaves are still on some of the trees and lots in our yards, snow is on it’s way and some of us begin to struggle with being down in the dumps. Maybe the way you coped in the past isn’t working for you. Maybe you are actually dreading the end of year holidays and seeing them as more obligations to meet.
Of course as a counselor of many years, I have expected myself to know all the right things to say to myself, all the right steps to take, all the right foods to eat, the correct spiritual practice. But, I can get on that “worry loop” and I just don’t seem to be able to shake it!! Particularly when it comes to money! That is my hot button for sure.
So I decided to experiment with some different ways to shake off the “loopy” thinking and the one that works every time, I mean EVERY TIME is this: I start doing for others. Now, I know what you are saying to yourself right now, I already do enough!!! I don’t mean build someone a house or even take them dinner. I mean, buy the guy behind you coffee, pick up a little piece of paper on the ground, smile at the woman in the grocery store, stop and talk to the older person who tells you the same story every day. When I start to look for opportunities to do the little things, it makes the day a lot more fun because I am outside of my head. The loop can’t start.
Remember we are a group of caring and talented humans who love assisting other humans to find the best way to love life. No problem is too weird or too small.
