Mary Butler, MA, LPC

Biography: Mary received her Master’s Degree in counseling psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in California. The degree’s emphasis was in marriage and family therapy, professional clinical counseling and depth psychology. Mary is licensed by the state of Ohio as a professional counselor. She has worked in various community mental health settings providing counseling services to clients experiencing a wide range of issues. Her practice is strengths-based and eclectic which means that she will draw from the most useful therapeutic approaches to best serve your unique needs. Mary’s underlying foundation encompasses a holistic, depth orientation. A depth orientation is interested in your inner life – what lies beneath the outer symptoms that have brought you to therapy. A depth approach encourages a deepened understanding of yourself, your symptoms and your habituated patterns. Mary’s intention is to create a collaborative space that feels safe for you to honor your experience and listen to the inherent wisdom that is your own. The therapy hour often becomes a time to re-center oneself—to take the time to listen to your needs and respond in a conscious manner to body, mind, and soul. This turning inward offers insight, discovery of inner resources and an opportunity to explore and develop new parts of yourself that often provide a renewed sense of meaning, vitality and transformative change. Mary’s primary areas of clinical interest include anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, PTSD, marital/family conflict, grief/loss, and life transitions.
Mary is a member of the American Counseling Association, International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, Jung Cleveland and Jung Society of Utah. Mary is currently pursuing additional training in Terry Real’s Relational Life Therapy (for couples). She is also a member of Sessions with Esther Perel – an online educational community for therapists, coaches, and educators. Mary received certification as a health coach through Iowa Chronic Care Consortium. Mary was a registered nurse for many years.
