RENEWAL AND HOPE ARE FEELINGS INTRINSIC TO SPRING. But this particular spring of 2020 brings with it MORE extreme challenges than most of us have experienced in our lifetime. Being focused on the pandemic can bring our anxieties to full tilt and turn our daily routines upside down, leading to mood disturbance, insomnia, eating dysfunction, misplaced anger and other problematic concerns.

As a therapist for over 25 years, I struggle along with my clients to help them through tough times. Part of my approach is to assist CLIENTS TO IDENTIFY what has brought them peace and joy in the past and explore how the better times in their lives can be transposed into the present. The positive and self nurturing components of our personalities are part of our core. For some it feels very natural to assist another in seeing the glass AS half full vs half empty. Others are challenged to find anything positive, especially during the pandemic. I talk to my clients about turning their helpful comments (that they can freely offer to others) and challenge them to apply and incorporate their positive comments IN THEIR OWN LIVES.

This is not an easy task for any of us. I have found it very helpful to take time each day to fully recognize and appreciate what I’m thankful for in the present. This serves a dual purpose; BOTH to stop activity and be more mindful of my day and ALSO to focus on what brings joy to my life. I hope you can take time today and give some thought to what brings peace and joy to your heart and soul.
